I'm Going to China!!! \(^O^)/\(^O^)/\(^O^)/

Xiamen University :)

I'm going to China!! I just received the confirmation email that I have indeed been awarded a full scholarship to go study at Xiamen University (厦门大学)in Xiamen, Fujian, China. I am soooooo excited. I am really interested in Chinese culture and I love the Chinese language. To have the opportunity to actually travel to China and use the language in its land of origin is absolutely unbelievable. This experience has taught  me that anything is possible and hard work pays off.

P.S. Look out for China the Living in China series around July :)

Accepting a B (._.)

Hello viewers!
Recently, I haven't been posting very often because I have been stressing out about school, testing, scholarships, and my extra-curricular activities. I haven't really had to much time to write about what's going on and when I would write something, I didn't want to release it because I didn't think it was up to the Camy's Corner standard. Today, however, I'm writing about accepting a B.

Me in the middle of Advance Chemistry Lab.
My entire life I have been very academically centered and always earned As. My high school transcript only has two B+ s on it, and both were 89s. Now that I am in post secondary school and the classes are harder, I have had to learn to accept the B-particularly in Advanced Chemistry. Both the lecture class and the lab are considered the most difficult courses the college has to offer, but you know me, I had to take it because it was much shorter and faster than its multi-semester alternative. I worked so hard and studied so late to pass these classes, but I kept falling short. One day, I did the math and realized that I would have to get 100% accuracy on everything else if I wanted an A in the lab and/or class. I tried, I really did, but I am not a perfect person and I did not earn 100% on everything. I actually started crying in my lab googles because I felt like I had failed. After a few minutes of self-loathing, I dried out my googles and started working towards the next best thing. I simply had to accept the B. Sure, my 4.0 GPA will be no longer and I will not have an arrow of As this semester, but I know I worked really hard and my B will have the value of an A.

College ≠ High School

For my newer viewers, I started college early and I'm more recently starting to feel its affects. Even though many people told me college is harder than high school, I never really listened because I didn't find high school to be all that challenging. Last semester was simple so I only heavily focused on one class. This semester, however, I have several classes that require extra attention. The key is to plan out how to allot your time. This semester I have to spend less time socializing and more time studying, preparing and applying for scholarships.

Speaking of scholarships, another difference between high school and college are the deadlines. The first day of class, facilitators pass out the syllabus which has all the topics that will be covered and a tentative schedule of assignments. After that, there are no more reminders of deadlines. In high school, the teachers assign homework that is traditionally due the next day and its assigned in smaller portions.

This semester has been a serious test of my time management skills (which is partly why I haven't been updating as often).

The Kennedy Center: The Christian Tamburr Quartet

The Kennedy Center features amazing talent every night. Tonight there was this amazing jazz band called The Christian Tamburr Quartet. They played original songs and classical pieces; every piece was excellent and executed with such passion. One could see each musicians love of music radiating from their smiling faces.

Not only are the musicians amazing artist, but they are also amazing people. They are all so nice and down to earth! Each of them would take the time to socialize with the audience members and they were so genuine. Its nice to meet humble people who are so amazingly talented.

Feel free to watch the performance :)
